BERGHOFF FINE ART PRINT COLLECTION
The Berghoff Art Gallery and workshop in New Port Richey, Florida has been closed for several years and since I am now downsizing I am making my personal collection of fine art and prints available to collectors and museums below the market prices you would expect to pay for these exceptional works by contemporary American and Italian artists.
The Berghoff Art Gallery first opened in the early 80’s as Soho South Gallery in Safety Harbor, Florida. In 1988 myself and a partner opened Berghoff-Cowden Editions – a collaborative screenprint workshop in a warehouse in Tampa, Florida, where we published an exceptional collection of innovative hand pulled screenprints. We invited national and internationally known artists Brad Davis, Frank Faulkner, Sam Gilliam, Roberto Juarez, Miriam Schapiro, George Sugarman, and Robert Rahway Zakanitch to visit our studio where they created monoprints, unique variations, and small editions. Their techniques often included hand painting. Some artists chose to collage, flock, cut and stitch, or fold and construct using exotic fabrics and layered Japanese papers. In 1998 the Berghoff studio moved to a converted horse racing stable on a ranch in New Port Richey, Florida.
In 1997 the Polk Museum of Art in Lakeland, Florida curated and exhibited a collection of these works which were acquired by collector Dorothy Mitchell entitled, "Expanding Expressions." The museum also organized "Transiti Italiani" – an exhibition of our visiting Italian artists Marilu Eustachio, Oliviero Rainaldi, and Cloti Ricciardi. These exhibitions have since traveled to venues throughout the United States – supported by the Polk Museum, and in part by the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Arts Council. Many are now in private and museum collections. The "Expanding Expressions" Collection of thirty-four works has now been donated to the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art in Tarpon Springs, Florida by the Mitchell family.
The contemporary artists who participated in our collaborative projects continue to exhibit and are represented in many major museums, including The Museum of Modern Art, The Whitney, The Hirshhorn, The Philadelphia Museum, The Corcoran Gallery of Art, and The Art Institute of Chicago; as well as museums in England, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, and Australia.
Please take the time to view a selection of the art now available on the website. The collection includes several hundred works and one wall sculpture by George Sugarman. Some pieces are unique and one of a kind - the editions that are available are small and very limited. I am now offering an excellent opportunity to savvy art lovers, collectors, and museums, to acquire these fine art works by prominent artists at a very reasonable price that is much less than their true value. Since my present storage space is now very limited, I do need to find a home for this special collection.
Although I will consider the purchase of several of the art works, I do prefer a group purchase of the collection. I have a complete inventory of each work that is still available. The discounts on the art are determined by artist’s works available and the amount of works purchased by the collector or collectors. Until I hear from you regarding your personal preferences I cannot be more specific about the individual prices. I hope you will e-mail or phone me regarding any questions you many have concerning your particular interest in the collection so we can discuss the special prices that are now available to you.
